Uncle Mike was always diplomatic, we remember many heated political discussions at Aunt Nancy's kitchen table, where all of us laughed and enjoyed hearing the opposing views delivered with passion and eloquence. Whenever it got to be too much, Uncle Mike would retreat to the pass-through window, informing everyone he was opting out of the conversation, as he was now in "the protected area" alongside, as if being seated at the table was a prerequisite to participate in the conversation. Those challenging conversations were great for us, allowing us to explore our own (often flawed) arguments without fear, a bit like the McLaughlin Group style of debate and discussion. So much fun!!!

Uncle Mike was low key one of the all-time greats. He was often the most well- read, educated, travelled, and yet most humble person in the room. To date, he’s the only person I’ve ever known who considered Kierkegaard summer reading. And his recommendation of Marilynne Robinson’s ‘Gilead’ made me temporarily rethink my boycott of women authors. If one were to cobble together all the college courses he completed into some sort of degree program, he would have likely obtained several doctorates. Of course, calling anyone without an MD a ‘doctor’ is embarrassing for all involved. Mike would have understood this and may be why all his coursework was all a la carte.
Mike was the first person I’d seek out at any family gathering. He was genuinely funny and was able to laugh both at the absurdity of life and at himself. He always took a genuine interest without being judgmental. He remained, always, young at heart, enjoyed a particular affinity with proceeding generations and was well loved by his nieces and nephews. I’ll miss his regular visits with Marge to my mom’s house in Sayville, where we enjoyed many good laughs and good Manhattans. The food was, generally, another story. Anyway, totally agree with the earlier sentiments that the world is worse off without him and that he should rest in peace.

Mike Ross and I met Mike Corr and Marge purely by accident during a tour in Vienna some years ago, and we remained fast friends ever since. They came to visit us more than once in Asheville, NC, where we live.
We have many fond memories of getting together. Imagine (since I can't figure out how to do this) photos of us laughing over dinner on our back porch. Imagine also our trips to Sicily and New Mexico. Lots of wonderful memories! We already miss Mike C. May he be in peace now.

Mike was my Confirmation sponsor (I took Michael as my Confirmation name) and I always felt that we had a special relationship, When I was struggling through swab year at the CG Academy I could always count on a well-timed, hand-written letter from Mike providing perspective and encouragement. He was the most well read man I ever met. There were times when I'd see him frequently, and then times when I'd go years without seeing him. Either way, his first words to me were always "What are you reading?". Mike and Marge visited us everywhere we lived, from Rhode Island to Virginia to Florida to California to Ohio. Whether it was eating crabcakes on the Chesapeake or sipping wine and smoking cigarettes in Sonoma (Mike loved his food and drink, and was both a philosophical stoic as well as a practical epicurean) he was always the best company. The best. Humble and deeply faithful, though always questioning the world around him and the world beyond, he was a role model for his unique intellect, whimsical worldview, and pure soul.
Kristen loved him as much as I did, and on a lighter note Mike provided the quickly adapted nicknames for all of our daughters, 'MEL' (Mary), 'Dolly Lama' (Annie), 'CG' (Clara) and 'Leenie' (Kathleen), all of whom sensed a kindred spirit in Mike's iconoclastic (yet faithful!) worldview and unique huge spirit, and who loved him deeply.
Rest in peace Uncle Mike.

Sharing a meal with Mike was always a joyful and pleasurable experience. He had the most voracious, hearty appetite of anybody that I ever knew. He eagerly devoured his food and drink with sheer delight. A fellow traveler sitting at our dining table said it best: " Mike, this cruise ship is losing money on you!"

Uncle Mike was a special guy not for any great accomplishments that he achieved but simply because of the man that he was. He was a decent, humble and honest person and the world could use a lot more people like him.
He had a great appetite for knowledge and learning, loved to travel and was a devoted companion to Margie. He was much loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed. May he Rest in Peace.

Mike was an inspiration to all who knew him- a beacon of light in this crazy, mixed up world.
I will greatly miss my good- natured fun-loving travel companion. We shared so many laughs together- looking at life in a similar way. Precious memories of our good times together will sustain me for the rest of my life. Rest in peace- dear Mike! The world will not be the same without you!

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Mike was when he brought home the feral cat that lived near a dumpster so he named it “Dumpster”. Not sure how long they lived together but Uncle Mike loved all animals. I think everyone in this family loves dogs. Uncle Mike and Aunt Marge love all animals and I love that about them.
I’m also grateful he was an avid reader and I read all the “Conversations with God” books because he recommended them.
I recall my sister Sharon got him a tee shirt that said “Mike, the Man, the Myth, the Legend” and that was the perfect shirt for him. That says it all!

Uncle Mike was my Godfather and I always felt as if we had a special connection as a result of that unique relationship! He was funny and clever and kind and supportive and understanding. He was a great listener and never too busy for an interesting conversation with me, dependable and willing to consider all perspectives on any issue.
We have been sharing all of our favorite stories of our great times together and it's so hard to decide which to share in writing in this book!!! I may end up doing a few entries.
Some of our greatest times were traveling, Chris and I meeting up with Uncle Mike and Aunt Marge in Torremolinos, Spain; sharing hearty laughs while we enjoyed Spanish tapas, and sampled some wonderful wines together. This is our favorite memory of our travels in 2002!

I’ve known Mike just about all my life.
The Corr’s lived ‘just about’ across the
street from my family on Hedge Lane.
When I was ‘little’, he was my older brother’s
friend. As most of his, and my family moved off
the block, he became my younger brother’s
co-worker and family friend.
Mike remained on the block and he and his friend
Marge were frequent guests at my younger brother
and sister-in-laws house for Christmas, New Years,
Easter, AND OF COURSE, St. Patrick’s Day.
Hedge Lane and Merrick will miss him.
Mike who was ‘gentle and humble of heart’, I believe is resting in the palm of the Lord.

Uncle Mike and I both studied Russian and some of my favorite memories are of speaking Russian with him at my West Point and business school graduation parties. I can admit after four years and a summer at the United States Russian Institute Uncle Mike (Mikhail) was the superior Russian speaker :) and while a humble Irishman was a very quick wit and brilliant man. By far the sweetest memory I have of Uncle Mike was watching him basically carry Grandma Corr around the living room dancing with her and magically making her feel 20 again. The care and love he always showed her during visits to Merrick showed the greatest gift he brought to this world- his kindness and affection and sweet gentle soul. RIP Mikhail - may God have you in the palm of his hand and may heaven have you dancing with Grandma to Irish ☘️ music and in eternal peace.

Uncle Mike - you were the coolest Uncle ever! Always the quick wit and intelligent humor. My favorite memory from a long time ago, we were visiting Grandma overnight and I was a shy, awkward teen. I came to the breakfast table and you said “you wake up beautiful - amazing” I have never forgotten that all these years later. It meant so much to me. And you always called me Leenie! ❤️❤️❤️RIP Uncle Mike - no more pain.

I have always considered Uncle Mike to be a rare combination of intellectual curiosity and supreme kindness, two qualities that are in short supply in this world at this time
He was also funny as hell
So in short the world is slightly less funny, smart and kind in his absence
Love you uncle Mike
