Obituary of James L. Martin

James Leslie Martin, son of the late George and Janet Martin, known to friends as Jim/Jimmy passed away at home on July 16, 2018 at the age of 69. A native of Scotland, Jim attended Herriott Watt University where he received a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry. He then went on to earn his Master of Science at the University of Manchester. Jim started his career as an Industrial Chemist at the Buxton, England branch of Lea Ronal, Inc. Jim and his late wife, Anne, moved to Long Island, New York with their children, Deborah, Patrick, and Kate, in 1979 when he was offered the opportunity to work at the company headquarters in Freeport, New York. Jim served as Lea Ronal's Director of Research and Development until his retirement. Jim is survived by his children, Deborah (Kenneth), Patrick, and Kathleen, grandchildren, Duncan, Lindsay Anne, Finley, Kazu, and Braid, and sisters Joan and Lesley-Ann. Jim had a great impact on everyone who was privileged enough to have known him and will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, July 20, 2018, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 11-1 p.m. at the N.F. Walker Funeral Home in Merrick, New York followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. and burial at Pinelawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Jim's interest in finding a cure for melanoma, a cause that was very important to him. www.giving.mskcc.org
