Mrs Wilson was such a part of my growing up years in Merrick. I remember so often going over her house to help feed Jeffrey or David the Junket she always gave them. She and my mom were close neighbors and Mr. Wilson used to take my daddy to the RR station in ,,, a Studebaker if I remember correctly.
I will always remember her calling me her little neighbor and she was fond of me because I was the little girl next door who spent a lot of time at her house and she liked being around a little girl I think.
Boots as the grown up neighbors called her will always be remembered with great admiration for being so strong and a little lady I looked up to as a child. Rest in peace Mrs Wilson and may your sons in heaven, and your husband and your dad that I remember, Mr Naponen greet you with loving arms...

Anyone who knew our Mom knows how many friends she had and how many people were fond of her. A selfless and generous person with a great amout of wisdom as well. Her friends were lucky to have her in their lives, and our family was luckiest of all.

I lived next door with my wife Mary to the Wilson's since 1971. Through the years we became close friends. I used to enjoy playing tricks on Boots. A funny story - one summer afternoon Boots was coming over to sit in our backyard and before she could see what I was doing, I took the lawn sprinkler, hooked it directly to the water faucet, with no hose, and turned it on. And we all sat there. Then she looked over and saw the sprinkler working and asked "Is that a special watering system you have there?" Before I could answer Mary said "Don't pay any attention to that -- Connie's just being an idiot." We had a good laugh over it. One of many memories we have with our good friend Boots.

My friend Boots was a very generous person. She went out of her way to help her friends and neighbors. When my Mom passed away, Boots asked if she could help me with anything. I planned on having family and friends back to our house after the funeral, and I had purchased a ham which I was going to bake the night before. Boots offered to bake the ham for me -- she covered it with pineapple slices and set up the food while we were at the cemetery. When we arrived home, in addition to the ham, Boots baked my favorite cake -- her wonderful crumb cake! What a woman! The best friend and neighbor a person could have.
