Dear Yeye,
It is strange to realize you are gone, but I am grateful for the time we spent together.
I remember the days when I would come over and you would express your love of how much I've grown and try to teach me more martial arts. I even remember when you went to pick me up from kindergarten.
You were an inspiration, and I will always cherish the memories we made.
You taught me many aspects of life.
May you rest in peace, Yeye, and live a happy life up there.
Thank you for everything.

My Way
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I’ve traveled each and every highway
And more, much than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
I saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
and did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all, so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took all the blows and did it my way
Yes, it was my way

Q: What 3 words best describe Kwong and why?
A: You are the 'Best Father In-Law.'
I heard everything about you only through Anthony. Now when I think of it, it was all because you were a very understanding Father In-Law. You gave me plenty of space in this family. You tend to stay in the shadow to support. You were mellow and kind. In the conversation I have with my parents or sisters we always speak highly of you. My parents were in disbelief when they heard that you were hospitalized in September 2022. In their mind, you were a strong and healthy 93 years old man who knew and practiced the secret of longevity. A mere thought of you being sick never landed on their mind. You placed a mark in everyone heart by just being yourself. As stated by Anthony, you will be missed but you will always be in our hearts.

This is to a man I respect, a friend I trust, and a father I love and look up to.
Dad, you are a man of very few words, but your actions counted 100 folds. I remember when we bought the house in Merrick. There was a 20-foot-tall tree. Mom hated trees. You told me one day. ‘Son let’s take it down together’. I said, ‘Yeah Dad!’ Then turned around and thought, ‘Yeah right!’ Three weeks later, that tree was gone. You took it down all by yourself with just a chain saw and a ladder and you were already at age of 61.
You were a curious cat who loved to try new things. That could be why you were never bored! You always find something to do. You learned Sketching and could draw very well. You taught yourself Mandolin through self-learning guide. You loved your Harmonica and could played beautiful Tune. In fact, I truly believe that my sister Carol Musical and Arts talents are all from you!
You were very playful, funny, and sometime had a odd sense of humor. I remember when I was 10, we were on a ferry crossing over from Kowloon to Hong Kong. You were munching on a dried prune and had pits in your mouth. You said to me ‘Son, you are 10 feet from me, but I bet I can spit the pits right into your mouth. I was only 10, what did I know then. I opened my mouth, you aimed, and I almost choked by tiny pits. I believe that was the first time every when mom was really upset at you.
You loved Martial Arts and had faithfully practice Tai Chi for the past 60 years rain or shine. You were persistence. You love to stick to routine.
Dad, you were lucky that you were only a commoner. If you were someone important in politics, I bet you won’t live till age of 93, because you love your routine and were so predictable. Dealing with you would be like the movie ‘Ground hog day -- ‘WE KNOW where you are, what you will be doing and when you will be doing it.’ Cause you were so rigid with your routine
You were a family man. Gave everything to the family. You loved mom so much that you never questioned her. You listened to her and never argued back. There were never any arguments in our house or fights over anything. You simply let mom had her way. The pass 3 months you were in and out of hospital and rehab, I missed you so much! Cause without you, mom turned to me and nagged me almost every day. So, thank you now for giving up your post and not coming back to continue your ‘duty’ playing a key role who spare me and sister from Mom’s nagging and wrath!
Dad, even though you never said it. But deep down I knew you love to draw attention. You want people to notice and remember you. You picked Sept 18 this year to fall and popped your right shoulder, that day was your Grandson’s Jason’s birthday. You picked Nov 25 to be hospitalized again due to your weak heart. Dad, Nov 25 was my Birthday! Now, we are saying goodbye to you in the morning of New Year Eve. So, enough said, we all get your points!
Dad, you told me weeks ago that you missed the old days. I missed those too. When you were bed bounded due to the back pain. You wrote ‘destiny’ on a piece of paper with tears in your eyes. I bet you knew then that those old days will never come back. I was so frustrated seeing you in your bed not able to freely get up by yourself for simple task.
I am truly sorry dad! But I have done my best to bring you back to the ‘old’ days, but I failed. I can only comfort myself now knowing that you are going to be at a better place where you will not be bed bounded nor on puree diet anymore. There will be plenty of space for you to move around and do your Tai Chi.
One last thing. Dad, you loved mom. That was obvious. I wanted you to know that mom loved you too. She just never says that out loud. I know she always said that in her next live, she wants to be far away from you as possible. But do you know that when I went to the cemetery and pick a lot. Mom told me to look for a double lot, so that when her time comes, she wants to be rested right next to you. I think you deserved to know that.
93 Years of age! Dad, I want to congratulate you in reaching this milestone. You will forever be in my heart. This is to you, Dad! I loved you and forever I will.

Q: What did Kwong like to do in their free time?
A: I will cherish the memories of Gong Gong showing off his many talents and skills, of which there were several and too many too count. Though I will miss him, I am more excited and looking forward to living life in the same spirit of always learning, doing, and not taking things too seriously by living in the present. Gong Gong always seemed to enjoying the present moment with a big smile on his face. I will keep this unspoken lesson in my heart.

Carol, I would like you to play this hymn with any of your instruments in honor of your Dad.
Beyond the Sunset by Virgil P. Brock
Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning, When with our Savior heaven is begun. Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning: Beyond the sunset, when day is done
Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather, no storms will threaten, no fears annoy; O day of gladness, O day unending, Beyond the sunset, eternal joy!
Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me To God, the Father, whom I adore, His glorious presence, His words of welcome, will be my portion on that fair shore.
Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion, with our dear loved ones who've gone before: In that fair homeland, We'll know no parting, Beyond the sunset for ever more!

In the 14 years I have been fortunate enough to know 公公, I have most admired his calm and unwavering presence. While it was difficult for us to have full conversations through language, his smiles, warm glances, and hugs were more than enough to make me feel like family even when Jason and I had only just started dating. 公公 always sat quietly at gatherings next to a very animated 婆婆, happily enjoying each moment, watching all 4 generations of the incredible family they created together. Although 公公 did not speak much, we were all intent on listening whenever he did. It became very clear to me that the abundance of love, talent, wisdom, kindness, and humor seen in his children (my Mommy-in-law and Uncle Tony) and grandchildren (Jason, Jeffrey, and Douglas) aptly reflects the kind of father and grandfather he was. 公公 will be sorely missed, but I am so sure he continues to happily observe everyone from heaven, as he slowly sips on a hot beverage.

My Big Brother
The day you married my sister, you became our Big Brother, a brother that guided us with your gentle kind demeanor only possessed by the Leung's genes. You were a man of few words, yet when you spoke, people respected you.
You were a great provider, a great husband, a great father and grandfather, you were a great friend to many.
You were a social butterfly even as you aged, you enjoyed a game of pool with friends in the senior club, you enjoyed people around you. You would have enjoyed Bristal but it was not meant to be. God has others plan for you.
Today we said good bye but it is only temporal, one day we will meet again.
You are gone but never forgotten. we LOVE you.

太公 was a wonderful and kind person I have ever met. I enjoyed talking and learning from him when I and my wife were invited a lot of time to my brother's house for family gathering. I started Tai Chi when I retired 3 years ago. He taught me the right way how to control my breathing and movement. I improved 100% on my Tai Chi forms. Thank you very much and we'll miss you.

Dear 大姨丈(公),
It is a pity that travel has been difficult these few years without the usual opportunities for family reunions. Last time we met was in 2019, not long before the pandemic. As usual your kind heart and caring soul shone through with your generous smiles and wise words and my kids having only met you all for the first time were so impressed with the love and joy that permeated through everyone.
We will miss you.

Q: How would you describe Kwong to someone who had never met them?
A: This morning I felt the desire to grieve for grandpa and did a little ceremony for him. I sat in my quiet spot, set the lights to green (heart / love), played some Tibetan Singing bowl, gave thanks to Grandpa for everything he's done in our lives. I had myself a really good cry, tears of sadness and joy. I am so grateful for our family Patriarch and his stoic guidance in our lives. Always giving sound advice, never steering us wrong. He's definitely left an everlasting legacy in our lives, especially mine, being the only person in my family that I know that exercises everyday with very few exceptions. Always lived simply and followed his passions for Tai Chi, photography, eating simply, breathing, and being a man of a few words. Which makes his word even more impactful and meaningful. Thank you, Grandpa for your guidance, thank you for your life advice, thank you for being a role model for men everywhere.
