Elena “Ellie” (nee Gregory) Travers Hancock, 93, died peacefully on January 6, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New York City in 1926, Ellie, in her own words, “lived a very happy life.” Family was everything to Ellie and her faith in God carried through the good times and the bad.
One of Ellie’s proudest achievements was becoming the first woman president of the Merrick Republican Club. She was also the well-respected First Deputy Commissioner for the Town of Hempstead’s Senior Enrichment Program.
Ellie looked on the bright side of life and always saw the good side of people. She touched many hearts with her love and beautiful smile. She loved socializing and surrounded herself with her family, who brought her great joy. She was stylish and classy, a great cook, loved her Champagne, and celebrated life to its fullest.
She is survived by her siblings Louis and Mary; her children, John (Lauree), Richard (Eileen), Carolyn (Thomas, deceased); grandchildren Jessica, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Taryn, and Devan; great-grandchildren Jennifer and Jaxson and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Mary and Louis, her siblings John, Adeline, and Anita; and her husbands John Travers and John Hancock.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, January 10 from 4 - 8pm at N. F. Walker Funeral Home, 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, New York, 11566
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 11 at Cure Of Ars Church, 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, 11566. Internment immediately following at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York, 11735
